Reeperbahn Festival Socials

Dear media partners, dear colleagues,
the first ever Reeperbahn Festival New York Edition took place this week. A first for Reeperbahn Festival – but also for A2IM Indie Week: it was the first time Indie Week included a concert showcase night in its programme – and it was initiated and organised by Reeperbahn Festival!

As one might expect, the first Reeperbahn Festival New York Edition drew to a close with music – a 6-hour concert that lasted into the early hours of Thursday morning. Showcase acts Malky, Jesper Munk, Grand Analog, Fenster, Moonboy Inc., and Rebstar performed for approximately 280 enthusiastic North American fans and music professionals at the terrific Gramercy Theatre in Manhattan. The showcase was open only to delegates attending the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) Indie Week and to fans and music lovers who won tickets through the New York weekly newspaper The Village Voice.

This year, A2IM, the largest music-industry association in North America, welcomed 789 member companies to its annual Indie Week meeting. The 23 members of the Reeperbahn Festival delegation accounted for one third of the 76 non-American attendees who were granted access to the select circle of American music-business companies and partook in the conference’s individual networking meetings and panel discussions.

Richard James Burgess, CEO of A2IM: “The Reeperbahn Festival showcase is the first time we have included an official international live music event at Indie Week. Cooperating with Reeperbahn Festival allowed us to present live performances and we are looking forward to expanding our relationship in 2017.”

Tobias Lampe, Superstition Entertainment, Hamburg, Germany, member of the Reeperbahn Festival delegation: “It was three very intense days of valuable meetings. I made some significant business contacts and, among other things, was able to negotiate directly with American streaming partners for the first time. I’m coming back!”

Through the New York Edition Reeperbahn Festival has gained a prominent position in the American music industry. The U.S. government has identified the festival as an important market-place in Europe and is now supporting companies that will attend Reeperbahn Festival in September.

Andrea DaSilva, U.S. Government, Department of Commerce: “We support the trade mission to Reeperbahn Festival, for the event is a dynamic hub and contemporary market-place that offers our companies good options for successful business with the European and the international music industries."

The first Reeperbahn Festival Edition in New York was supported by the German Foreign Office, where a spokesperson had this to say: “For the music business in particular – which has to be able to compete in a global and increasingly digital market – international networks and co-productions are becoming more and more important. The aim is to support the international networking of the German music industry through a wide variety of projects, thereby making it more competitive. It is for this reason that the Federal Foreign Office has provided support for the Reeperbahn Festival New York Edition.”

It was a great first edition and we’re looking forward to its continuation in 2017! Press photos for the Reeperbahn Festival New York Edition can be found in our download area.
