Reeperbahn Festival Socials

Dear media representatives, dear colleagues,
Just as the Reeperbahn Festival has become a well established element of the international music scene, the same can be said about the day that has been spearheading the Reeperbahn Festival for three years: Wednesday with its highly attractive programme items is much more than the day of arrival spiced with musical framework programme. Here is an overview of the numerous Wednesday highlights!
Frehn Hawel

Hamburg, 5 September 2016
Ladies and gentlemen, may we present? The new super Wednesday on 21 September! Since it was first introduced in 2013 the fourth event day and kickoff of the Reeperbahn Festival has continuously gained in importance. This year the Wednesday will hold even more highlights.
The big Labels have been guests of the Reeperbahn Festival with their own events nights for several years. This year, their event series will start with Universal Music at the Docks. During the Universal Music Night apart from special guest star Joy Denalane, the indie rockers Blossoms from Manchester, the British song writer Frances and the Danish soul-pop genius Alex Vargas will be on stage.
Further Universal Music highlights at this year's Reeperbahn Festival will be the gigs of Chefket, Louane, Walking on Cars, Lola Marsh, Lawrence Taylor and many other artists.

Drone Painting - A world premiere at Spielbudenplatz! The Cooper Copter flying robots, manufactured in Hamburg, have so far mainly been deployed for research and photographic purposes, because of their makers' past as art academy students they are now, for the first time, put to a completely different use at the Reeperbahn Festival: They are converted into Pollock Copters to present public action painting in the tradition of the US artist legend Jackson Pollock. The fast and manoeuvrable racing copters are controlled simultaneously by several pilots, hurling paint bags on former facades of the Esso buildings until a wild painting emerges from a multi-coloured cloud of paint. And here we've come a full circle back to pop music where Pollock's approach has been a well-established name, even before the iconic album motif of the British band the Stone Roses.

For many years, the daily "Ray´s Reeperbahn Revue" hosted by ex-MTV moderator Ray Cokes has been one of the Reeperbahn Festival's most popular formats. Up to now always presented on Thursdays, Ray´s Reeperbahn Revue will start already on Wednesday from now on!

At the Grünspan, starting at 1 p.m., Marcell Jansen, former football professional and present-day investor, the American start-up Claire England and Chelsea Collier or Peter Ivanov, coach and founder of the Virtual Power Team, will speak about current chances and challenges for start-ups. At 6 p.m. the fourth Startups@Reeperbahn pitch will take place. Five start-ups will introduce themselves to a top-class jury. The best one will be awarded with the WELT media prize in the amount of 100,000 EUR.

The world premiere of Matthias Arfmann's sensational album "Ballet Jeunesse" (publication on 9 Sept. 2016), which he will present together with the Hamburg Symphonic Orchestra at Schmidt´s Tivoli, deserves greatest attention. In his new work, Arfmann and his production team manage to deconstruct and fragment apparently untouchable ballet classics with a history of many hundred years, such as Tschaikowsky's "The Nutcracker", Prokofieff's "Peter and the Wolf" or Strawinsky's "Firebird", and transform them into songs whose fascination lies in the combination of old and new, concert hall and dance floor, sonata and break beat.
