The ANCHOR, a new international music prize for up-and-coming artists, will be awarded for the first time ever during this year’s Reeperbahn Festival. Today we are pleased to introduce the members of the international jury and the participating bands and artists who hail from six different countries. Frehn Hawel Hamburg, September 14, 2016
“All eight nominees are very promising. It won’t be easy to choose the best talent. That’s why I’m really glad to be part of this top-notch and diverse jury, responsible for this great task”, Y’akoto explains enthusiastically about the launch of the ANCHOR. In the race for the new accolade for excellent music are Albin Lee Meldau (SE), Conner Youngblood (US), Holly Macve (UK), Shame (UK) and Olivia Sebastianelli (UK), Konni Kass (FRO), the Berliners by choice Parcels (AUS) and the electro-pop band Woman (DE). The three-day long competition takes place from September 21 – 23 with performances at the legendary clubs Molotow and Imperial Theater. The grand finale of the ANCHOR 2016 will be the show on September 24 at the venerable St. Pauli Theater in Hamburg, Germany. In front of 400 invited guests, Alexander Schulz, initiator and Festival Manager of the Reeperbahn Festival and the jury will announce the very first winner of the ANCHOR. The moderator-duo Kylie Olsson (BBC) and Helena Felixberger will guide through the evening, with the beatboxer Beardyman and singer-songwriter Jarle Bernhoft (NO) as the musical live acts of the evening. Whether you call it a spring board, launch pad, or catapult - the ANCHOR will establish itself in den following years as a significant predicate for the music industry. The whole design concept as well as the trophy of the new music brand was created by the design icon Peter Schmidt. Beside several performances in front of a high-carat jury, the ANCHOR offers its nominees the opportunity to win the award, thereby draw international attention to their work. Embedded in one of the prime platforms of the music industry, the Reeperbahn Festival, with its 4.000 accredited participants from about 43 nations, will enable the nominees to perform in front of a highly interested musical and professional audience.
