Reeperbahn Festival Socials

Dear media representatives, dear colleagues,
Yesterday the 11th Reeperbahn Festival has made a fantastic start! Three world premieres, the drone painting action on Spielbudenplatz, the ANCHOR 2016 and the world's first performance of Matthias Arfmann's "Ballet Jeunesse", were celebrated. And now the mystery of the Very Special Guest of the Warner Music Night will also be uncovered – we are looking forward to the highlights of three more festival days!

Hamburg, 21 September 2016
On the afternoon of the opening day of the Reeperbahn Festival the traditional music dialogue took place at Hamburg's City Hall where high-ranking representatives of the German music business (record labels, concert organisers, radio broadcasters, publishers and streaming provider agents) talked about the most important current topics of the music sector with Carsten Brosda, state councillor for cultural affairs. Under the headline "Venture capital artist?" topics such as artist career development, marketing and the so-called value gap in the value-added chain caused by advertising-sponsored online services were discussed.

World premiere, the first:
On the morning of 21 September the Cooper Copter flying robots, manufactured in Hamburg, caused open mouths and great amazement: Because of their makers' past as art academy students the fast and manoeuvrable racing copters, which are mainly deployed for research and photographic purposes, are now put to a completely different use at the Reeperbahn Festival: They were converted into Pollock Copters celebrating public action painting in the tradition of the US artist legend Jackson Pollock. Paint bags were hurled at high speed at the site fence facade of the former Esso high-rises until a wild painting emerged from a multi-coloured cloud of paint.

World premiere, the second:
With 68 musicians of the Hamburg Symphonic Orchestra, the Hamburg-based producer and music visionary Matthias Arfmann and his artistic group celebrated the world's first highly anticipated performance of his outstanding new work „Ballet Jeunesse“ in which Arfmann spices well-known classics, such as "Peter and the Wolf" or "The Nutcracker" with beats and electronic sounds to transfer them into the here and now. Frenetic applause and an overjoyed creator give reason to hope for a speedy encore of his brilliant performance!

We will provide cut material and a finished article on our media server at 5 p.m.
World premiere, the third:
The ANCHOR - the new predicate for the best international newcomers - barges right into the centre of a digital world, in which music recommendations are increasingly taken over by algorithms: At St. Pauli Theater an international jury of six consisting of the producer legend Tony Visconti, the songwriters Emiliana Torrini and Anna Ternheim, soul singer Y´Akoto as well as moderator Ray Cokes and SXSW music head James Minor (photo) presented first themselves in a refreshingly personal show, and then the eight nominated bands and artists who will fight for the award for the best new music at Molotow and Imperial Theater from last night until Friday (incl).
The nominees: Albin Lee Meldau (SE), Conner Youngblood (US), Holly Macve (UK), Shame (UK), Olivia Sebastianelli (UK), Konni Kass (FRO), Parcels (AUS) and Woman (DE).

On Saturday, 24 Sept. the winner will be awarded in the course of ANCHOR 2016 – The Show at St. Pauli Theater. Last night's video of ANCHOR 2016 – The Opening will be available early today on the media server as a ready-cut clip for all online and picture editors.
TV and newsrooms will find raw material at the same place. We are continuously updating and expanding the contents!

Very Special Guest at Warner Music Night
On Thursday, 22 Sept. at 3:30 p.m. the retention period will end – after that the Very Special Guest at the Warner Music Night may be published: With their new current No 1 album "Ellipsis", Biffy Clyro emphesise their reputation as one of the world's hottest rock bands – a proof of this are their explosive concerts!
