Reeperbahn Festival Socials

Dear media partners, dear colleagues,
After the huge success of last year’s first-ever Reeperbahn Festival New York Edition, we’re very pleased with the sharp increase in enrolment for our 2017 edition – evidence that more and more companies in the European music industry regard participation in the Reeperbahn Festival’s overseas activities as a wise investment when seeking to enter the North American market. And so in June we head across the pond for the second time. By taking part in the American Association of Independent Music’s (A2IM) Indie Week, from June 5 to 8, in New York, Reeperbahn Festival is giving delegates exclusive access to the A2IM conference, which is otherwise an A2IM-members-only event. In addition to providing specially tailored contacts and business meetings, the conference affords an opportunity to strengthen the transatlantic music network – a matter close to our heart, and one that even independent of the business context has rarely been more important than it is at this moment in time!

As in 2016, this year’s New York Edition includes a Reeperbahn Festival showcase night. Presented by Consequence of Sound it will feature a line-up of international acts. The showcase will take place on June 7th at Lower East Side music venue Pianos. At a press conference to be held prior to the showcase, long-time David Bowie producer Tony Visconti will present the jury for the ANCHOR 2017 competition.

In just under three weeks, the Reeperbahn Festival heads to New York for the second time to launch the second Reeperbahn Festival New York Edition, to be held in the city of all cities in conjunction with the American Association of Independent Music’s (A2IM) Indie Week from June 5 to 8. A2IM Indie Week is the annual meeting of the largest association of independent music companies in the US; access to Indie Week is restricted to A2IM members and the Reeperbahn Festival delegation.

The 2017 Reeperbahn Festival delegation consists of 24 European professionals representing 18 businesses active in the music industry including labels, management companies, production entities, distributors, conventions, and export offices from countries such as Germany, Austria, Denmark, Latvia, and Portugal. By providing exclusive access to A2IM Indie Week, the New York Edition aims to once again this year give its delegates an opportunity to make contacts in the US market that are tailored to their individual needs; attend the conference’s many panels and workshops and thereby gain concrete insights into the particular conditions of the world’s largest music market; and set in motion new business deals and partnerships.

A2IM Indie Week 2017 will be held at The Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural & Educational Center (107 Suffolk St., New York, NY 10002) on New York City’s Lower East Side.
The Lower East Side of Manhattan holds a truly iconic, almost mythical status in the cultural landscape of New York. Packed with galleries, boutiques, deli’s and live venues, acts such as The Ramones, Talking Heads, Blondie, and Patti Smith became synonymous with the neighbourhood. Venues such as CBGB’s, the Bowery Ballroom, the Mercury Lounge, C-Squat, and Arlene’s Grocery helped create a legend. Another of these famous places, Pianos (158 Ludlow St) will play host to the Reeperbahn Festival showcase on Wednesday June 7th at 7pm:

Lounge: Megan Bonnell (Canada), We Bless This Mess (Portugal), and Lydmor (Denmark).
Main Stage: Carnival Youth (Latvia), Leyya (Austria), Oliver St. Louis (USA), and Albin Lee Meldau (photo).

Swedish singer-songwriter Meldau won the ANCHOR 2016 – Reeperbahn Festival International Music Award and has subsequently signed with Capitol (Universal) and William Morris Endeavour (WME).

All A2IM Indie Week registrants have free access to the Reeperbahn Festival showcase. Further, Consequence of Sound is running a public ticket giveaway (this is the only way that the public can access the showcase).

Just prior to the showcase ANCHOR will host a press conference for international media at A2IM Indie Week. Tony Visconti will reveal the jury for ANCHOR 2017 during the press conference moderated by Music Week's US editor, Emmanuel Legrand. ANCHOR 2016 winner Albin Lee Meldau will talk about his rapid career development and Reeperbahn Festival director Alexander Schulz will be available for questions.

For those unable to attend the June 7th press conference in person, the names of the jury members will be published at
