Dear Media Representatives, Dear Colleagues,
The State of Modern Classical Music, round two! After an exceptionally successful launch in 2016, classical and pop music are offered their own platform once again this year at the Reeperbahn Festival. Together with prestigious partners from the field of classical music such as Bosworth Music, Le Bureau Export, Deutsche Grammophon, DMV - Deutscher Musikverleger-Verband e.V., Neue Meister, Music Estonia, ProArte, Sony Classical and Warner Classics, we have compiled a broad-based programme of showcases, receptions and sessions. We kick off on Wednesday evening with a premiere: Deutsche Grammophon will transform the Resonanzraum at Medienbunker Feldstraße into its Yellow Lounge for the first time!

The music landscape has never been as interdisciplinary as it is today. So it's not surprising that young electronic pop artists in search of new forms of expression are referencing more and more elements from classical music. The State of Modern Classical Music platform focuses for the second time on the fascinating interaction between these two musical worlds at the Reeperbahn Festival 2017.
In the Conference programme, three sessions Radical music - Classical Music, Neo Classical: In Harmony or Out of Time? and Hit the Score – New tendencies in current film scores will highlight current aspects, trends and the visions of contemporary classical music. At the reception Meet The Classical Music Partners on Thursday, 21 September, the Reeperbahn Festival and its partner companies Bosworth Music, Deutsche Grammophon, Neue Meister, ProArte, Sony Classical, Music Estonia, Le Bureau Export as well as Warner Classics will host a reception in the foyer of East Hotel.
The Reeperbahn Festival wouldn't be the Reeperbahn Festival without premieres – and this also applies to the classical programme, which is open to the general public. There are three such events.
In the brand new Festival Village at Heiligengeisfeld, pianist and electronic artist Martin Kohlstedt presents his audiovisual programme “Currents”, developed especially for the Reeperbahn Festival, in the 360° Dome, on four evenings.
On Friday, 22 September at 9.00 pm, the Reeperbahn Festival in cooperation with the Hamburgische Staatsoper, hosts a show by Sam Panda and The Teeth for the first time at the Staatsoper Hamburg's opera stabile, where Sam Penderbayne and his band plan to break down the boundaries of music genres.
Deutsche Grammophon presents its now internationally renowned Yellow Lounge for the first time at the Resonanzraum in the Medienbunker Feldstraße on Wednesday, 20 September from 8.30 pm. The concept of the series, which was launched in 2001, is to bring classical music out of traditional concert halls and get younger audiences interested in this kind of music within the context of a club night featuring live performances by outstanding classical artists, DJ mixes of old and new compositions and visuals especially created by international VJs. The concept has been enthusiastically received – in Berlin and Brussels, London and Madrid, Buenos Aires and Tokyo, New York and Sydney.
