Not to be released before 10 January 2018

Dear media partners, dear colleagues,
When the new year is only a few days old and the first Reeperbahn Festival press release has already landed in your inbox, it can only mean good news!
We are delighted that after an extremely successful “debut performance” at last year’s Reeperbahn Festival, the Elbphilharmonie will once again be a festival venue in 2018 – and this time around on two days: on Friday and Saturday, 21 and 22 September, a total of five concerts will be held at Hamburg’s new landmark.

Hamburg, 9 January 2018
Few concert halls in recent memory have aroused as many emotions internationally as Hamburg’s new landmark, the Elbphilharmonie, which marks its one-year anniversary this month. The run on tickets continues unabated – likewise the Elbphilharmonie’s commitment to being a concert hall for all citizens of Hamburg and not a remote temple of high culture. That the Elbphilharmonie takes this commitment seriously is clear not only from the outstanding programme it offered during its first year – a programme that displayed an absolute openness to an immense variety of styles – but also from the fact that integration into a festival context seems to suit the Elbphilharmonie remarkably well:

Following its successful Reeperbahn Festival debut in 2017, the Elbphilharmonie will once again be a festival venue in 2018, and will present a prestigious international programme of concerts on both Friday and Saturday, 21 and 22 September:

British indie-folk band Bear’s Den, in cooperation with composer Paul Frith (UK), will be at the Elbphilharmonie with an exclusive line-up, performing a specially arranged version of their storyteller-folk – and proving that timelessly good songs always cut a fine figure even in classical concert halls.
After a period of intensive work on new compositions, Hamburg-based electro producer David August will be at Reeperbahn Festival to play his first exclusive concert in Germany since 2016, bringing specially arranged pieces in a new instrumentation and a customised lighting scheme to the Elbphilharmonie stage.
Lewis Capaldi (UK), singer-songwriter from Glasgow, known for his hit “Bruises”, possesses an impressive husky, soul voice that one would never ever think could belong to a 21-year old. After a host of concerts as the opening act for Rag‘n’Bone Man, Capaldi will play his biggest gig in Germany to date when he performs at the Elbphilharmonie.
The French-Cuban twin-sister duo Ibeyi (FR) combine their earthy music – which incorporates elements of soul, hip-hop, synth-pop, and Afro-Cuban rhythms – with trenchant political statements. So far they’ve released two albums – and become a bit of an international sensation in the process. After making their German debut at an intimate gig at Reeperbahn Festival 2014, Ibeyi return to Hamburg in 2018 as full-fledged stars.
Her is one of the most exciting French newcomer bands around and has already gained a considerable following in Germany with their danceable electro soul, casual dandy elegance, and combative social criticism. Tragedy struck the group with the recent passing of band co-founder Simon Carpentier. It brings great joy to be able to welcome Her to Reeperbahn Festival 2018.

The dates and times of the Elbphilharmonie concerts are as follows:

Friday, 21 September:
20:00 – 21:00 Ibeyi
23:00 – 00:30 David August

Saturday, 22 September:
18:00 – 19:00 Her
21:00 – 22:00 Lewis Capaldi
00:00 – 01:10 Bear’s Den

In order to give a large number of festivalgoers an opportunity to attend a concert at the Elbphilharmonie during Reeperbahn Festival 2018, a reservation system is being implemented that will go live at noon on 10 January 2018.
