Reeperbahn Festival Socials

Dear media partners, dear colleagues,

This week the focus of the international digital, media, and music industries once again shifts to Austin, Texas, where on 9 March the 32nd edition of the world’s largest gathering of the creative industries, South By Southwest (SXSW), gets under way. Reeperbahn Festival will be in attendance – for the tenth time now – with a host of activities. At our official showcase, on 15 March at Friends Bar (208 E. 6th Street), Reeperbahn Festival will proudly present a line-up of ambitious international newcomer acts. Plus, SXSW-goers can find us, as always, at “Reeperbahn Hamburgers”.

Few events offer more or better opportunities to check out the live capabilities of new bands and artists, meet with international business partners, launch new cooperative ventures, and find loads of fresh inspiration than SXSW, the largest gathering of creative minds from the digital, media, and music worlds. Reeperbahn Festival intends to take full advantage of these opportunities when in early March it journeys to the capital of Texas for the tenth year in a row. As co-initiator and ambassador of the international Keychange initiative, we’ll also be in Austin advocating for greater gender equality in the music business.

The best ideas occur when creative people from the media, film, music, and digital industries come together – this has been South By Southwest’s (SXSW) maxim from the beginning. In the 32 years since its inception, SXSW has not only become the world’s most important gathering for the international creative industries, but has also helped establish Austin’s reputation as the new Silicon Valley. Every year in mid-March, the biggest names from the worlds of culture, politics, and business head to the tech and music city to take part in SXSW’s immense programme of conference sessions, networking events, concerts, films, and exhibitions – and to thereby actively shape the future. In previous years, speakers have included Barack Obama, Mark Zuckerberg, Edward Snowden, and Elon Musk. In 2018, SXSW attendees can look forward to hearing from Bernie Sanders and Arnold Schwarzenegger, among many others, between 9 and 18 March.

The nine-day SXSW event opens with the digital and media conference SXSW Interactive (9 – 12 March). Attention then turns to all things music with the SXSW Music Festival (12 – 18 March). The music programme once again this year comprises 2,000-plus bands and artists, making the SXSW Music Festival one of the most important music industry events and a major springboard for new talents.

Viewed by the international music industry as the European version of SXSW, Reeperbahn Festival returns to Austin in 2018 for the tenth time and will host a wide range of activities between 10 and 15 March.

The highlight is the official SXSW Reeperbahn Festival Showcase, to be held on 15 March at Friends Bar, where Reeperbahn Festival is presenting up-and-coming New York-based songwriter Gus Dapperton; Hamburg rapper Ace Tee; Hamburg techno marching band MEUTE; French electro-pop band Fishbach, American pop band Vita and the Woolf; and German psychedelic rockers Blackberries

As always, the central meeting point will be “Reeperbahn Hamburgers”, located opposite the Austin Convention Center. A business event here on 15 March provides an opportunity to meet the Reeperbahn Festival team and find out about the third Reeperbahn Festival New York Edition, to be held 18 – 23 June, and the 2018 ANCHOR international music competition, whose winner will be chosen at the end of September in Hamburg at Reeperbahn Festival by an international jury chaired by music producer Tony Visconti.
