Reeperbahn Festival Socials

Dear media partners, dear colleagues,
Reeperbahn Festival goes New York City: From 18 to 23 June, Reeperbahn Festival will issue a sort of miniature version of itself at A2IM Indie Week presented by SoundExchange – complete with a showcase night in cooperation with Consequence of Sound featuring international acts, and the introduction of the ANCHOR 2018 jury – presenting the festival to the North American music market as the ideal European platform for new music and the music business. Confirmed acts for the New York showcase are: HAERTS (DE/US), Jade Bird (GB), Akua Naru (DE), Little Junior (CA), Surma (PT), and Jeannel (DE). This is the third time the Reeperbahn Festival team is taking a delegation of German and European music industry professionals to A2IM Indie Week, the largest gathering of independent music companies in North America. And there’s more: SyncSummit, a two-day conference devoteddedicatedto music and brands, film and advertising, will be part of the Reeperbahn Festival New York Edition programme in 2018 for the first time.

Just about two weeks to go until the Reeperbahn Festival team and 18 representatives from 16 European music businesses (a mix of labels, distributors, and management companies) will head over to the Big Apple for the third Reeperbahn Festival New York Edition, to be held in conjunction with A2IM Indie Week, the largest meeting of the independent music community in North America, and SyncSummit, a conference devoted to music and brands, film and advertising.

On Wednesday, 20 June, at A2IM Indie Week, the jury for ANCHOR 2018 will be introduced by Reeperbahn Festival and legendary producer and ANCHOR jury chairman Tony Visconti. The ANCHOR is the Reeperbahn Festival’s international music award and its aim is to help up-and-coming new bands and artists in their efforts to launch international careers.
Songwriter and ANCHOR 2017 winner Jade Bird (GB) (photo) will be present and will also perform at the Reeperbahn Festival showcase night to be held at the legendary live club PIANOS on Manhattan’s Lower East Side on the night of 20 June – from the moment she takes the stage, she’s sure to convince the showcase’s American audience that one voice, one guitar and a whole lot of good stories are still – in 2018 – enough to captivate entire concert halls. Based near New York by now, the duo HAERTS (DE/US) from Munich, who have already conquered the US with their ravishing indie pop, have a pretty short journey. Their hit “Your Love” is part of the soundtrack of the successful Netflix series “13 Reasons Why” and it is probably known to many, although they might not know who’s behind it. HAERTS will represent the Wunderkinder - German Music Talent program, initiated by Reeperbahn Festival to promote talented German musicians and music acts. With a sound steeped in political urgency and feminist poetry, rapper – and the third New York showcase act – Akua Naru (DE) stands for the future of female hip hop, making her the perfect ambassador of Keychange, a project partnered by Reeperbahn Festival that is devoted to strengthening the role of women in the music industry. Among other things, Keychange is behind the 2022 agenda, a commitment made by 45 international festivals to achieve a 50/50 gender balance in their programmes by 2022. The Reeperbahn Festival showcase night will be complemented by the energetic power pop of Little Junior (CA), multi-instrumentalist Surma’s (PT) atmospheric mix of ambient and post rock and the spheric popscapes of the Berliner-of-choice and Chilly Gonzales discovery Jeannel (DE).
As always, the delegates traveling to the Reeperbahn Festival New York Edition will not only be able to gain deeper insights into the American music market through exclusive access to the A2IM conference and its many panel discussions and workshops but will also have a variety of opportunities to effectively broaden their US networks by participating in meetings tailored to their individual needs. This year, the programme has been expanded to enable delegates to also take part in the New York SyncSummit conference with its focus on the alliance of music and brands, film and advertising.
