Reeperbahn Festival Socials

Dear media partners, dear colleagues,
At its premiere last year, apart from functioning as a centre for the exchange of wristbands, issuance of accreditations and the guest list, the Festival Village on Heiligengeistfeld turned out to be a welcome haven of peace in the Reeperbahn Festival bustle. Of course, the Festival Village will also be there this year – with an area of 15,000 sqm for music, conference, food trucks and also the arts programme, featuring the Field of Arts presented by SEAT!

Festival Village and Field of Arts presented by SEAT
Whether festival or professional visitors – all Reeperbahn Festival guests of 2017 already came across the Festival Village (photo) on Heiligengeistfeld as one of the major new locations, even before plunging into the hustle and bustle of Reeperbahn Festival. Previously available in the centre of Spielbudenplatz, wristbands and accreditations for media representatives and conference guests are now being issued on Heiligengeistfeld, in close proximity to the entrance of the St. Pauli underground station.

The Festival Village with its space of over 15,000 sqm starts directly behind the Ticket Desk and is, apart from Spielbudenplatz, one of the most important and largest open-air spaces of Reeperbahn Festival: A modern, green oasis of well-being with many seating arrangements where visitors can retreat to relax, plan their festival day or get in touch with artists and other festival visitors. Food trucks and bars provide culinary highlights – and, of course, apart from relaxed moments, the Festival Village also offers an exquisite programme.

The new mirror tent at the Festival Village will be the venue for the art and conference programme:
On Wednesday, 19 September, the Berlin-based artist Isaiah Lopaz (US) will present stories and traditions of sub-Sahara origin to his guests in the course of his performance “A History of Remembering” which includes a communal dinner.
On Thursday, the mirror tent will be completely in the hands of the Europe-wide initiative Keychange, which is dedicated to strengthening the role of women in the music business and is supported by Reeperbahn Festival. On this day, the latest trends and challenges of the topic gender equality will be examined in panels, workshops, discussions and concerts.
Friday will be Europe day. First the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture of the European Commission will introduce the new European funding programme for the music business “Music Moves Europe”, before the new European music prize “Music Moves Europe Talent Award” will be presented by representatives of the European Commission, the Eurosonic Noorderslag Festival and Reeperbahn Festival. In the evening, the premiere of the European Music Late Night Show will follow, with artists nominated for the Music Moves Europe Talent Award and further guests, promising to be an exciting musical night.
On Saturday, the mirror tent will feature a lecture stage with readings by Marco Göllner (DE) and the popular “Türsteherlesung” (The Bouncer's Readings) (DE).

Also, a new Village feature: The Field of Arts presented by SEAT. SEAT as first-time partner of Reeperbahn Festival supports the Field of Arts this year, after the automobile manufacturer had earlier caused some commotion at renowned festivals such as the Primavera Sound in Barcelona and Porto as well as the Lollapalooza in Berlin and Paris, presenting live painting actions.
With its street art inspiration battle “Beats and the City of Hamburg”, SEAT will contribute a spectacular programme item. In this performance, the two graffiti artists Lily Brik (ES) and Bond Truluv (DE) will work on the same topic on different sides of a screen construction – supported of course, by music as motivator for creativity! The audience, while dancing, will have the rare opportunity to witness the creation of art.

Among the artists presenting installations on the Field of Arts will be Isaiah Lopaz (US) with his intense “Say What You Mean & Mean What You Say” as well as Björn Holzweg (DE) with his “'Lost Track' Roller Coaster", while Quintessenz (DE) will perform magic with colours and shapes in their “Vanilla Sky” installation, and Tape That (DE) will show in their "Tape Art Container" that adhesive tape is the perfect basis for fantastic art. A "Budny & Rossman Funpark" (DE) will offer a complete adventure world featuring two comic characters, while an overseas container turned into a "Shared Studio" will not only stream art programmes from all over the world but also function as broadcasting stage!

Deezer Next presents
After a successful evening in 2017, the Reeperbahn Festival streaming partner Deezer will also organise an evening with concerts of four bands at the Häkken on the festival Wednesday. The line-up already promises an early highlight of the Reeperbahn Festival live programme:
The four ladies of Goat Girl (GB) are considered THE British band of the season. Their pop songs are enormously catchy, yet conveying a clear political message, they are “sugar coated bullets”, so to speak. Their debut album, called after them, comprises 19 pieces and is rightfully regarded as one of the most important current UK publications. Laing (DE) with their electro pop songs and uniform stage outfits and their own choreography will prove that avant-garde and humour are compatible. The six-person formation L’Impératrice (FR) and their electro sound will first take their audience to the cool lascivious aesthetic of film noire only to switch over to seventies disco music, while EUT (NL) around the singer Megan de Klerk will open the night with their stormy indie rock.
