18 – 21 SEPTEMBER PRESS RELEASE
Reeperbahn Festival Socials

Bild1

Dear media partners, dear colleagues,
From 30 October to 05 November, Reeperbahn Festival presented itself for the first time in Los Angeles with a miniature Reeperbahn Festival edition as part of the Sequencer Tour in the course of the Deutschlandjahr USA, initiated by the German Federal Foreign Office. Music lovers from all over the city had the opportunity to visit the Klaus Voormann exhibition, for the first time presented at this year's Reeperbahn Festival, as well as an international showcase night. During the "Music Matches", organized by Reeperbahn Festival, the accompanying representatives of German music businesses entered into dialog with their American counterparts to exchange their ideas about the challenges of the future. All in all, we can state that art, music and the music business are still extremely suitable instruments when it comes to sustaining transatlantic understanding.

Successful premiere!
The beginning already had symbolic character: On 30 October, the US music and composer legend Van Dyke Parks opened the exhibition "It Started In Hamburg" by his German friend Klaus Voormann at the artspace Navel, pointing out the crucial importance of art, culture and music for the German-American relationship. This was strongly emphasized by the great public acceptance as well as major coverage in the LA Times.

"We are pleased about the successful opening of Klaus Voormann's graphic work exhibition in Los Angeles, in the presence of his companion, the musician and producer Van Dyke Parks (photo). The exhibition is building a bridge between the two continents, displaying Voormann's creative work in the US, Germany and further stations in his life. Its great public appeal and the consistently positive feedback as well as media coverage will be a fantastic start for the programmes to come in the next days here in Los Angeles that we have organized in cooperation with re:publica and next media accelerator in the course of our Sequencer Tour on the occasion of the Deutschlandjahr USA." Alexander Schulz, CEO Reeperbahn Festival.

Another public programme item was an international showcase night at the charming club Zebulon, composed of up-and-coming young bands and artists: After songwriter Findlay (GB) thrilled the audience with her garage pop, Giant Rooks (DE) had an easy job with their large-scale indie rock, as if they were playing in their home town – something being actually true for the brilliant beatmaker Linafornia (US) from Los Angeles who, with her lo-fi hip-hop and r'n'b, paved the way for rapper Mavi Phoenix (AT).

"Being invited to join the Sequencer Tour was a milestone in Giant Rooks' career; it more than exceeded our expectations." Alex Richter, Four Music.

During the two-day programme item "Music Matches", German music business representatives met American counterparts in networking platforms and panel sessions. These intensive encounters were rated as very productive and promising and will be the initial spark for many following collaborations.
Top-level speakers from the US and Germany as well as participants from the US, Germany and the Netherlands discussed which interfaces, challenges and chances the German, European and North-American music market is offering in the fields of publishing, synch, management, A&R, live entertainment and recorded. On 01 and 02 November, in the course of curated interviews, about 50 participants gained exceptional insights into the global work strategies of the guest speakers. When the German and European needs of the sub-markets in question were compared with the specifics of the US market, the delegates gained valuable professional knowledge and developed future-oriented ideas in the subsequent discussion with the audience. Please find further information and a complete list of all "Music Matches" participants here

On Monday, The Sequencer Tour was concluded in LA by a conference day at the Navel organized by re:publica on the topics "Leisure & Lifestyle" and "Politics & Society".
