Reeperbahn Festival Socials

Dear media partners, dear colleagues,
Reeperbahn Festival with its regular activities abroad, in New York or at the South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, has been at home on the global stage for years. The new "Reeperbahn Festival International" programme, sponsored by the German Federal Foreign Office, will initiate an external cultural programme focused on the music-industry related dimension of international cultural exchange.

In the months to come, Reeperbahn Festival will be further expanding its activities as a central European music platform for international and trans-cultural exchange. Spin-offs, entitled "Reeperbahn Festival International" and sponsored by the German Federal Foreign Office, will be set up and further developed in Nashville, Beijing, New York, Accra and Los Angeles, aimed at encouraging partnerships and cooperation between German and European artists with artists of the destination countries in question and enabling co-organisation of new networks between those active in the music industry. For this reason, at the heart of these cultural activities abroad is the presentation of artists of German music businesses who want to access international cultural regions. The programmes offered at the five new international locations will be rounded off by workshops, matchmakings and other networking formats in which companies and their artists can meet potential partners from the corresponding sub-markets.

Andreas Görgen, Federal Foreign Office, Head of Culture and Communication:
"Thanks to the support of the Bundestag ('Federal Diet'), the foreign cultural policy fosters the creative industry with a special focal agenda – also within the scope of #wunderbartogether. Independent and successful creative businesses protect and support the diversity of voices and stories all over the world. In particular, for small and unknown labels/agencies/artists it is difficult to gain a foothold and to be heard at international level without any support. Reeperbahn Festival is a brand well-known in the international music world, offering support through its network of well-established institutions and partners, presenting an optimum platform for international market entry and trans-cultural exchange."

Alexander Schulz, Director Reeperbahn Festival:
"The ‘Reeperbahn Festival International’ project ties up to successful national activities of Reeperbahn Festival, expanding its commitment to relevant international cultural markets. It is our universal strategy to facilitate access for German and European music-business companies and their artists to new markets and an international audience, to provide them with media attention in the target countries and to enable exchange with local market participants, artists and institutions. As frequently active artists carry out themselves some or all of the tasks accompanying their marketing activities, the issue is also about supporting them in terms of cultural contents and in their roles as economic players."
