Successful 13th Reeperbahn Festival Presence At SXSW 2019

Today, the Reeperbahn Festival presence at South By Southwest (SXSW) 2019 in Austin, Texas, will come to an end. Apart from its activities accompanying the traditional "Reeperbahn Hamburgers" receptions, Reeperbahn Festival presented itself successfully for the 13th time to the North American market with a concert night as well as panels and presentations on "Immersive Experiences" and "Gender Balance" at the world's largest digital, film and music fair, again demonstrating its vision of future-oriented topics.

Have a look at our media library and see a detailed programme review below.

"Empowering Women In Music" – Showcase & Panel Discussion

Last Monday evening, Reeperbahn Festival, together with the initiative "Keychange", presented a selection of international female artists, including the new "Keychange" ambassador and rapper Mavi Phoenix (AT), Gurr (DE), Lowly (DK), as well as SOAK (UK) at the Palm Door on Sixth club. The showcase was funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media upon a decision of the German Bundestag.

The event "How to achieve a gender balance in the music sector - comparing aims and measures in Europe and the U.S.", taking place at the German Haus, compared different insights and measures for gender equality in the two markets, contrasting the European initiative "Keychange" with US initiatives. Taking part in the discussion were:

Vanessa Reed, (PRS Foundation, UK)
Andreya Casablanca and Laura Lee, singers of the band Gurr (DE)
Danielle Middleton (Sony ATV, US)
Maria Gironas (YouTube, US)

Hosted by: Sharyn Goldyn (School Night, US)

"Immersive Experiences" – Panel Discussion & Presentation

The well-attended sessions on immersive media also took place at the German Haus. Moreover Reeperbahn Festival gave a first taste of its Hamburg event at the German Haus on 12 March by presenting the "Symphony Of Noise VR" by Matthew Herbert. The work, specially composed for presentation at Reeperbahn Festival, merges the compositions of the British sound scientist with virtual reality, thus creating an innovative music adventure to be experienced in September.

All panel discussions took place in the course of the program "Deutschlandjahr USA", funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and organized by the Goethe Institute and the Federation of German Industries (BDI). In this context, Reeperbahn Festival, in cooperation with re:publica and next media accelerator, will present its "Sequencer Tour" programme at various locations across the US.

The next international stops of Reeperbahn Festival are:
05 – 08 May 2019 in Nashville/Tennessee
18 – 19 May 2019 in Beijing, China
17 – 23 June 2019 in New York City/New York, USA
