The change to streaming as the main way of music consumption has affected many aspects of songwriters’ royalties and how they can be collected. As repertoire is licensed to digital music services, things have become extremely complex and payment systems seem inefficient leading to a reduction of the royalties that creators receive. While featured artists can often get their royalties within weeks, composers and authors many times have to wait years before being able to collect.
MMF’s 2019 „The $ong Royalties Guide“ the findings of which we discuss with MMF’s Annabella Coldrick (Managing Director, GB, photo), Songtrust’s Mandy Aubry (Director Global Business Development, NL), and Mogwai manager Ray Black (Founder, Craft Management, GB) has been put together by music consultants CMU Insights whose Chris Cooke (GB) will open the session with a brief talk on the guide. Subsequently he will also lead the discussion Keeping Up with Digital Music Consumption with amongst others ICE’s Neil Jones (VP Online Processing, GB), Lucilla Green (Managing Director, Do The Rights Thing, GB) and Lina Heyman (Head of Rightsholders Relations, STIM, SE) about technical solutions to the new challenges of royalties payments.
