The State of Modern Classical Music

For the fourth time we are focussing on the exchange between “pop” and “classical” at our Modern Classic strand. Now, more than ever, genres are dissolving, artists leave their traditional framing and new challenges, but also lots of synergies emerge.

In cooperation with important companies in the field of modern classical music, including Bosworth Music, Bureau Export, Deutsche Grammophon, Neue Meister and ProArte, we have prepared a package of showcases like Yellow Lounge - Tribute to Jóhann Jóhannsson (Deutsche Grammophon, Yellow Lounge, DE), Neue Meister - Labelnight (Neue Meister, DE), and The State of Modern Classical Music (Bosworth Music, Peermusic, DE), receptions, and sessions that present a wide range of today’s classical music.

With speakers such as Ólafur Arnalds (Artist, IS), Till Janczukowicz (Founder, Idagio, DE), and Elina Hage (Owner, Artifier Management, DE) we will address topics relevant to the genre, including managing artists in a post-genre world, presenting classical music on digital platforms, creating content beyond audio, and applying for music project funding.

Reeperbahn Festival as Lead Partner for  Keychange 2.0

The overwhelming success of the Keychange Initiative on gender equality in the music business, for the first time presented at the 2017 Reeperbahn Festival, will enter the next phase in September with the soul star Joy Denalane as new ambassadress for Germany.

Furnished with 1.4 million euros by the EU Commission until 2023, Keychange will extend its goal for a balanced gender ratio, in terms of content as well as space, from the live entertainment to neighbouring fields of the music business. Details on the Keychange 2.0 measures will be introduced on 19 September at 11.00 p.m. The event is open for all media representatives, artists and professional visitors.
