PRESS RELEASE

dear media partners, dear colleagues,

Six weeks to go and Reeperbahn Festival will open its gates for its first (and hopefully only) pandemic-adapted version. As mentioned before, the situation concerning how the infection is handled is still highly dynamic, something that also has a direct impact on our event: Due to the new General Regulation of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg of 30 June 2020 we will adapt our concept again. This includes further reduction of our live programme offer as well as the number and capacities of venues. In terms of digitally offered events, we will provide an unprecedented range of medial contents this year on account of a massive extension of the scope of media productions, which make it possible to experience Reeperbahn Festival in the virtual world as closely as never before.

The extension of the digital Reeperbahn Festival offer for professional visitors and people interested in music will make this year's edition a hybrid event composed of a live programme and digital space: While the concert, arts, literature and film programme will still take place live on St. Pauli, offers for professional visitors can be experienced digitally via streaming at home. In addition, for everyone interested in music who will not be in Hamburg, a wide and exciting programme of live streams and videos on demand will be available.

Due to the current adjustments, the expected number of visitors will be reduced to 2,000-2,300 per day, the number of venues for the public program to about 20; five of them are open-air stages. The capacities for visitors at the venues will range between 30 (e.g. at Molotow Backyard) and 850 visitors (at a newly created open-air stage on Heiligengeistfeld). With the exception of the open-air stage on Spielbudenplatz, Fritz Bühne at Festival Village and the Molotow Backyard, all further venues will probably have chairs. As a rule, seats will be assigned in groups of two or singly so that strangers are not placed next to each other. Only those venues where seats are provided may be served with alcoholic beverages.

There will be 120-minute periods for disinfection and airing between concerts, i.e. every evening, participating venues can stage two to three concerts starting at 06:00 pm. For the 2020 concert programme, this means a reduction to 120 live shows (about 30 per day). Apart from a few cancellations, this year's concert programme has also seen new confirmations – among others the Danish singer-songwriter Tina Dico (DNK) will play the DOORS OPEN concert at Stage Operettenhaus. Here you will find the complete programme overview.

The Reeperbahn Festival 2020 programme

Apart from concerts, this year's Reeperbahn Festival programme will include around 40 programme items from the fields of art, word, film and discourse at different venues on and near St. Pauli – in particular, at the Festival Village on Heiligengeistfeld.

The digital platform of Reeperbahn Festival will be available to registered professional visitors from 10 September, offering a wide branch-specific programme composed of talks, panels and master classes with 200 international speakers. The programme will be streamed live from three venues on the Reeperbahn. Apart from the many options of digital linking, digital business lounges or digital events, such as the VIA - VUT Indie Awards, will ensure that the music world can truly interact also in the virtual room.

Professional visitors of Reeperbahn Festival can get access to the digital offer via our ticket shop (optionally, also in combination with day tickets for our on-site programme).

Further festival day tickets will be available online from 14 August. Until then, all ticket holders can decide whether they will attend Reeperbahn Festival 2020, cancel their tickets or transfer their tickets to 2021.

Corona FAQ
As the situation is extremely dynamic in times of corona, there might be further adjustments in the next weeks. We have set up a Corona FAQ service for our visitors.

We would like to take this opportunity to point out to all participants that the increases in easing and possibilities to meet in public space, must not distract from the fact that responsible conduct and the greatest caution are still important.
