REEPERBAHN FESTIVAL CELEBRATES TENTH ANNIVERSARY
|
Anniversary! Hard to believe: this year the Reeperbahn Festival will be held for the tenth time! Reason enough to celebrate – and to continue to change and diversify! And on this front, there’s lots of news to report: this year, for the very first time, the festival is turning the spotlight on a particular country – with “Aus Finnland” (From Finland) we’ll present the music scene of this small but music-mad nation. We’re also looking forward to the first Hamburg editions of the NEXT digital conference and the VUT (German Association of Independent Music Companies) Indie Days – the latter also brings the VIA! VUT Indie Awards to the Reeperbahn, the independent music industry’s first and only critics’ awards. And with the debut of MerchMasters a new platform devoted to all aspects of music merchandising will celebrate its world premiere. Which leads us to the most important question: Which artists are coming to the Reeperbahn for the festival’s anniversary year? Today we’re pleased to announce the first wave:

FIRST BANDS AND ARTISTS CONFIRMED
“Amore” at first sight: with “Bologna”, Vienna-based band Wanda landed a hit that fans well beyond the borders of Austria are already singing along to – and in September Wanda will finally have the world of the Reeperbahn at their feet! But Austria is certainly not alone in being a longstanding source of exceptional talent. Just look at Iceland, where Sóley is coming out with her second album, “Ask the Deep”, in May, and once again blending fantastic indie pop with rapt melancholy. MORE->
INDEPENDENT MUSIC COMPANIES PARTNER WITH REEPERBAHN FESTIVAL
With two events in conjunction with this year’s Reeperbahn Festival the German Association of Independent Music Companies (VUT) is demonstrating its commitment to Hamburg: the VUT Indie Days will be held on the Reeperbahn for the first time, joined by the VIA! VUT Indie Awards, the independent music industry’s first and only critics’ awards. The VUT, the Reeperbahn Festival, and the City of Hamburg have entered into a three-year partnership; the Hamburg Ministry of Culture (Kulturbehörde Hamburg) will be the main sponsor of the VIA! Awards 2015. MORE ->
ARTISTS FROM ALL GENRES EXPECTED
The successful mix of newcomers and old favourites is, of course, also reflected in the Reeperbahn Festival’s arts programme. Popular formats, such as the Türsteherlesung (an event at which bouncers read from their own work) and the Flatstock Europe Poster Convention, once again demonstrate that aspects of music and club culture are generating ideas in many other genres. Installations, shows, curated urban-art projects, and special exhibitions have been part of the festival’s programme for years. On the occasion of the Reeperbahn Festival’s tenth anniversary, artists, organisers, and associates will offer accounts of the festival’s beginnings and current success in the context of a large exhibition.
