Reeperbahn Festival Socials

Public Art at One of the City’s Most Exciting Spaces – press talk 17.09.

The demolition of the Esso buildings left a hole in the heart of St. Pauli. What’s in front of the hole now: white walls. What’s wanted: art! The Reeperbahn Festival invited artists’ collective Baltic Raw to give the walls a new look, and the results are being presented on 17 September. Móka Farkas and Berndt Jasper of the collective have managed to combine a critical examination of this much-discussed site with an aesthetic solution. Where the polar bear fits in and why fragmentary components are needed to create one big whole – these are things that can be learned at the press briefing on 17 September, 5 p.m., at club HÄKKEN, Klubhaus St. Pauli. Reeperbahn Festival general manager Alexander Schulz will give a preview of the new features being rolled out for the tenth edition of the Reeperbahn Festival – now just around the corner. Staff members responsible for the music, arts, and conference programmes will also be present and ready to provide information in their respective areas. Following this info-packed briefing is the opening of ZEHN - the exhibition and the release of ZEHN the magazine. We look forward to seeing you!

The Music Programme Is Complete

Hard to believe – band and artist confirmations are coming to an end. It’s true: the music programme is now complete and comprises approximately 500 concerts. And so, for the last time in 2015, we hereby announce the latest additions to the line-up: Conrad Keely, frontman of the Texan indie-prog-rock band…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, is coming out with his first solo album next year and giving a few selected concerts in anticipation of the release; plus, there’ll be Trail of Dead songs! Also at the festival with a debut album: London-based Georgia, who has quite nicely summed up her sound as “post-punky hip-hop soul”. The Berlin-based quartet Abby will also take the stage; the band’s wide-ranging indie pop shines with ever greater intensity on its second album. Great emotions, clever format – that’s what Luke Sital-Singh provides and it’s why he’s being celebrated around the world for his rethinking of the folk tradition. For Hamburg-based trio Pool, playing the Reeperbahn Festival is playing on the home pitch, and their rousing indie-pop will be welcomed with open arms. Other new confirmations: Shura (Foto), C Duncan, Tom Adams, Eljot Quent, Tüsn, Vierkanttretlager, LOT, Martin Luke Brown.

Blacktape – First Film by Freundeskreis Rap Poet Sékou Neblett

Sékou Neblett was a rap poet in the Freundeskreis crew and is a familiar name to many, but in addition to his work in music, he’s also been active for some time as a video director and publisher. For his first film, “Blacktape”, a documentary, Neblett set off in search of the origins and evolution of German hip hop, a subculture that has long since become an integral part of popular culture. Press inquiries for Sékou Neblett should be sent to Luisa Lazarovici and Christina von Lindenfels at

NDR Blue Backstage in the Alte Liebe

The relevance of radio remains undiminished. NDR Blue Backstage, the live radio talk show from the Alte Liebe, featuring music journalists, artists, promoters, and many others, will get under way each festival day at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on NDR Blue, which can be received on digital radio and on the internet. Ruben Jonas Schnell, Susanne Hasenjäger, Paul Baserkville, and Siri Keil – familiar voices from the NDR Info Nachtclub – will serve as moderators.

Spotify at the Reeperbahn Festival

Streaming service Spotify is showcasing itself at the Reeperbahn Festival for the first time. The Spotify Trendsetter Club (in HÄKKEN, Klubhaus St. Pauli, Spielbudenplatz 21–22) will be open all four festival days. By day, it’s the site of discussions, talks, and networking sessions: Will Page (Spotify Director of Economics) will answers questions about user behaviour on streaming services and will give tips on how German artists can operate effectively on these platforms; and the panel “Festivals, Live Music and Technology” will look at festival apps, their use, and the habits of those who use them. By night, the Spotify Trendsetter Club plays host to “Spotify Sessions”: four concerts each night, featuring, among others, Oscar Key Sung from Melbourne, the 18-year-old Elias (photo) from Stockholm, the London electro/R & B duo Honne, and many other young international artists. The shows will be recorded and will be available exclusively on Spotify a few days after the Reeperbahn Festival.

The Helga!® Festival Award 2015

In 2015, the Helga!® Festival Awards are being awarded for the third time – with a fair bit of festivity, musical accompaniment, and hell-raising. The Helga!® Awards are the independent festival awards presented by the Reeperbahn Festival and Festivalguide. This year, a panel of experts made up of bands and solo musicians is selecting the winners. They’re deciding, among other things, which festival had the best crew, which had the best sound, and which festival debut was the best of the year. However, the winner in the most important category, “Best Festival Germany” is, as always, up to the festival fans themselves – their votes determine which festival takes home this prize. The Helga!® Awards ceremony will be held on 24 September, starting at 6 p.m., in the Imperial Theater Hamburg. Invitation only.
